My house in Washington Township sits under a lot of mature trees. Why does my siding stain so fast?

Mature trees give you shade, which is great in July, but they also block airflow and trap moisture against your siding. That is the perfect setup for green algae and black mildew, especially on the north side. Pollen in the spring sticks to the damp surface and gives the algae something to feed on. A proper soft wash with the right cleaning mix kills the spores at the root, not just rinses the color off, so you actually get a couple of clean seasons before it comes back.

We are near Washington Lake Park. Does the extra moisture really make a difference?

Accepted Answer

It does. Anywhere within a half mile of the lake holds more humidity in the air, especially overnight. That moisture sits on roofs, fences, and the shaded sides of houses much longer than in a drier neighborhood. I see more roof streaking and wood rot on those properties. Twice a year cleanings, plus keeping the gutters truly empty, makes a bigger difference there than anywhere else in town.

How do you handle the painted brick on the older Sewell colonials?

Carefully. Painted brick is tricky because the wrong pressure can flake the paint right off, and once it flakes you are looking at a much bigger project. I use a low-pressure rinse and a cleaning mix that lifts mildew without lifting the paint. If a few small spots have already started to peel, I will tell you straight up before I start so you can plan a touch-up afterward.

Will you clean the patio without damaging the joints between my pavers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The mistake people make is hitting the joints with a narrow tip, which blows the sand right out and leaves you with weeds within a month. I use a flat surface cleaner that spreads the pressure across the whole stone, then I re-sand every joint with polymeric sand and lock it in. The patio comes out clean and the joints are tighter than they were before.

My back fence got knocked sideways in the last big storm. Can you save it or do I need a whole new run?

Most of the time I can save it. I will walk the line, check every post for play, and tell you which ones need to be reset and which ones are fine. Often it is two or three posts that took the wind, not the whole fence. If a section of boards got cracked I can swap just those. Full replacement only makes sense when the bottoms have rotted across most of the run.

Do you do the smaller stuff too, like a sticking gate or a loose railing?
