Our home on East Main is over a hundred years old. Can you really clean it without doing damage?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but the approach matters. The Victorians and Federals along Main Street have wood siding, painted brick, or original stucco that absolutely cannot take a high-pressure blast. I run a low-pressure soft wash with a careful cleaning mix that lifts mildew and pollen without disturbing the paint or the substrate underneath. On historic stucco I drop the pressure even further so we do not chip the surface. Slow and gentle, every time.

Why does my brick walkway in front turn green every spring?

Accepted Answer

The shade from your mature trees is the main reason. A walkway that sits in shade most of the day stays damp longer after every rain, and that moisture is exactly what algae and moss need to take hold. Once it is established it comes back faster every spring. I clean the brick down to the original color, treat the surface so the algae does not just regrow, and seal it where appropriate so the next spring is cleaner from day one.

We have a flagstone patio that has loose stones and dirty joints. Can that be restored?

Flagstone is one of my favorite restorations. The stones themselves almost never need replacement, but the joints between them break down over the years, especially the older mortar joints on Moorestown patios. I clean the surface back to the natural stone color, repoint or refill the joints depending on what the patio was originally built with, and seal the whole thing if you want a richer wet look. A flagstone patio that gets that treatment looks like a whole new outdoor room.

Do you do work on the larger estate properties out toward Lenola?

All the time. Bigger properties usually mean longer driveways, more walkways, more fence run, and patios that have been added in stages. I am set up for the larger jobs and I will plan the day or week so we are not tearing up the whole property at once. If the estate has irrigation, low voltage lighting, or specialty plantings near the work area, I work around them and tell you ahead of time if anything needs to be temporarily moved.

Can you match the original mortar on our older brick chimney?

Matching is half the job on historic Moorestown masonry. Older mortar has a softer, lime-rich composition that looks and behaves differently than modern Portland mortar. If you use the wrong mix, the new joint will be harder than the old brick and the brick faces will start cracking within a few seasons. I match the color, the sand grain, and the softness so the repair sits flush with the original work and protects the brick instead of stressing it.

Will you take on smaller projects too, or only the big ones?

I take on the smaller stuff and I am glad to. A back gate that has dragged for years, a porch column with a soft spot at the base, a custom outdoor fire pit for the patio, a downspout that disconnected from the underground drain, a few rotted fence pickets along the property line. If you have a list of small things waiting for one capable person to knock them out, send it over and I will roll them into one trip.
