Learn MoreFence Repair in South New Jersey
South Jersey fences take a beating. Wet winters, hot summers, the occasional Nor'easter, and the everyday wear of dogs, gates slamming, and tree limbs falling. After 25 years repairing fences around Cherry Hill, Washington Township, Voorhees, and the rest of the area, I can tell you most fences do not need to be replaced when they look bad. They need the right repairs in the right spots. Posts reset, pickets swapped, gates rehung, hardware upgraded. Save the cost of a full tear out for when the fence is actually done.
The first thing I do on every fence repair call is walk the run end to end and check the posts. Eight times out of ten, the post is the problem. The pickets and rails are usually fine, they just stopped being held up properly. Replace the bad posts and the rest of the fence stands back up like the day it went in.
Resetting And Replacing Posts
A leaning fence almost always means a post failed at the soil line. Wood rots, concrete footings crack, or the post was never set deep enough. I dig the failing post out, knock the old concrete apart, and reset a fresh post in new concrete below the South Jersey frost line so winter does not heave it back up. For long runs in Marlton or Mount Laurel where multiple posts are going at once, I plan it so the rest of the fence stays braced and supported while I work my way down.
Picket And Panel Replacement
Cracked, broken, or missing pickets get pulled and replaced with stock that matches the existing run. On wood fences I match width, profile, and tip cut, then seal the new pickets so they age in instead of standing out for years. On vinyl fences I source the same brand and color, since vinyl pickets fade slightly and a brand new picket of the wrong color will stick out. For full panel sections knocked down by a storm or a tree limb, I rebuild the panel to match the original style.
Sagging Gates And Latches
A gate that does not close right is the most common fence call I get. The fix depends on what failed. Sometimes it is the post moving, sometimes it is the hinges pulled out, sometimes it is the gate frame racking out of square. I diagnose which one and fix the actual problem. That might mean resetting the post, switching to heavier hinges with longer screws into solid wood, adding a diagonal turnbuckle inside the gate frame, or all of the above. The goal is a gate that latches the first time and stays that way through every season.
Chain Link, Vinyl, And Wood
I repair all three. Chain link in older Sicklerville and Blackwood neighborhoods often just needs the mesh re-stretched, top rail straightened, and a few posts swapped. Vinyl fences in newer Washington Township and Voorhees developments crack at the rails or pickets and benefit from matched replacement parts. Wood fences are the workhorse around South Jersey and respond well to a mix of post resets, picket swaps, and a fresh stain or seal coat. Whichever style you have, repairing the right parts is almost always cheaper than starting over.
