Learn MoreNew Fence Installation in South New Jersey
A new fence is one of the few outdoor projects that pays you back every single day. Privacy from the neighbors, a safe yard for the dog, a real boundary for the kids, and a serious bump in curb appeal. After 25 years installing fences across Cherry Hill, Washington Township, Voorhees, and the rest of South Jersey, I can tell you the install is what makes or breaks the fence. The materials matter, but the depth of the post holes, the concrete footings, and the line of the run matter more. Cheap installs lean inside of three years. A fence set right will outlast the people who put it in.
Every install starts with the layout. I walk the property line with you, talk through the gate locations, and string a line so the run is straight before any post hole goes in. Skipping that step is how you end up with a fence that wanders by half a foot over a long run.
Markouts And Layout
Before I dig, I file a New Jersey 811 markout request so every buried utility on your property gets located and flagged. South Jersey yards are full of gas, water, electric, cable, and fiber lines, and a single hit can cost more than the fence. Once the markouts are clear, I confirm the property line, set string lines, and mark every post hole. On a Cherry Hill or Washington Township lot with mature trees and an old shed in the way, the layout is half the job.
Post Holes And Footings
Post holes go below the South Jersey frost line, at least 36 inches and deeper for tall privacy panels and gate posts that take more load. Each post sits in fresh concrete with the right slope on top so water runs away from the post instead of pooling against the wood. Then the concrete cures. Setting a panel on green concrete is a shortcut that costs you the fence in a few seasons. I let it set up before any rails or panels go on.
Choosing Wood, Vinyl, Or Aluminum
Wood is the workhorse for privacy fences in South Jersey backyards. Pressure treated pine is the budget pick, cedar costs more but holds color and resists rot longer. Vinyl is low maintenance, holds white or tan color for years without paint or stain, and is the popular pick in newer Voorhees and Marlton developments. Aluminum is the move when you want an open ornamental look, often around pools or front yards in Moorestown and Medford. I will walk you through the trade offs on price, lifespan, and look so you pick the right one for your yard.
Gates, Hardware, And Finish Work
Gates are where most cheap installs fall apart first. Heavy gate panels need heavier posts, longer screws, and good hinges or they sag inside of a year. I oversize the gate posts, use galvanized hardware, and add a diagonal brace inside the gate frame on anything wider than four feet. Latches get adjusted on site so the gate closes the first time and stays latched. By the time I leave, the fence is plumb, the gates are square, and the yard is cleaned up.
